Crafty Kindergarten Students are building a collage using a cardinal as the theme for their final work. We looked at images of birds, especially the unique paintings of artist and illustrator, Charlie Harper. Students practiced their cutting skills and arranged their compositions. It was up to each individual artist to decide which season to use in their final composition. In this picture below, we see Spring is in the air. Great job artist! Fabulous First Graders will complete a Faschnaut (Doughnut) composition using an overlapping Torus. They will add lines and shapes to make pattern as they embellish their Faschnauts. Students will gain background knowledge about the unique culture of the Pennsylvania Dutch (specifically the Amish-click and learn _) and the Faschnaut Tradition. We have already been building doughnut sculptures and are waiting patiently for them to fire so we can glaze, next week. In the meantime, a fabulous doughnut composition was the perfect fit to tie in to our current studies.
We worked very hard on our owl sculptures; adding texture and trying to get them to stand on their own. Next week we will glaze.
